retail

The reputation of our Retail business for delivery and enduring relationships continued to win business from new and existing customers. Marks & Spencer, for whom we have now delivered more than 200 projects since 2003, awarded another eight projects to Wates Retail in 2010. Wates Retail also won a place on the Lloyds Banking Group framework, while continuing to deliver for HSBC as well as starting on site at the largest retail construction project in Europe with John Lewis at Stratford City.

The Business grew its market share and customer base despite difficult trading conditions, which saw demand for retail fit-out and the refurbishment market reach its lowest point in 2010.

Annual Result highlights for Wates Retail include:

  • £112m turnover in 2010
  • 95% injury-free sites (100% by 2012)
  • 94%* would choose to work with Wates Retail again (100% by 2012)
  • 92% non-hazardous waste diverted from landfill

* Independent survey carried out by Oyster 2010
