Technical Manager

Wates currently have an opportunity for a Technical Manager to join our Developments team in Leatherhead.Within the group, Wates Developments is an expert in land, planning and residential development throughout Southern England. Our business holds a large and growing portfolio of potential residential development land and our team focuses on securing valuable planning consents in sustainable locations, in both town and country where it is needed most.We also sell land and invest in residential schemes through long-established joint ventures with leading UK house builders.As a Technical Manager you will: Undertake and advise on various technical due diligence for new land opportunities in conjunction with the land team, to include the production of technical summary reports. Be a technical support for the planning projects team during the promotion and planning application stages of the WD land portfolio. Ensuring that all projects are technically deliverable and that the technical risks are mitigated, and value engineered in a timely manner. Collaborate with the teams to set up to deliver the exits of the WD portfolio to include delivery of technical, abnormal details and costs where required. Responsible for cost advice on all infrastructure and abnormal costs for the project viability, at all stages through the process (land identification, Planning promotion/applications and exits). Manage, engage, and benchmark external consultants where required in the production of technical information including working within agreed financial budgets. To ensure that the consultants outputs remain measurable and reviewed on a regular basis. Engage with local authority planning departments, highway departments, utility providers and sewerage undertakers to ensure that all technical areas are covered for land opportunities and planning applications. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of development regulations, legislation and building technology in order to be a lead and innovator within the business and the go to for technical advice. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a new Senior Land & Planning Manager to join our Wates Developments team in Leatherhead, working within the Projects team to secure planning consents on our ever-growing land portfolio.As our Senior Land & Planning Manager you will: Implement strategies to safeguard the interests of the company & ensure deliverability of planning consents with the aim of maximising returns on capital & profitability. Promote land for allocation or consent adding value to the companies’ existing land/property portfolio. Prepare, submit reports, forecasting & updated valuations of the portfolio to support the growth of the business. Identify opportunities to advance planning strategies or maximise return on sites wherever possible Liaise with key stakeholders, landowners & agents whilst upholding the Wates Guiding Framework values to promote trust & build relations to deliver planning consents.We are looking for an experienced land and development professional with experience in; the UK planning system, legal land contracts, development solutions, appraisals, land transactions and politics. As a developer contractor, Wates Residential business invests in, develops, builds and sells quality affordable housing, either contracting or in a form of partnership with local authorities, housing associations, or public bodies like Homes England. As our Head of Communications & Marketing this role will oversee all communications and marketing for the Wates Residential business unit, covering internal and external communications, media relations, crisis management, digital and social media, employee communication, event management, and marketing to support business growth.The role involves developing and executing strategies, aligning with the Group's overall communications and marketing goals, and using data-driven insights to improve customer and employee experiences.ABOUT THE ROLEAs our Head of Communications & Marketing, you will: Lead on our media relations, social media and public relations activities for the Residential business, as well as developing communications that build and maintain a strong reputation within local and central Government. Work closely with business development, to craft marketing strategies, multi-touch campaigns, events and awards to boost brand awareness and support business growth. Manage third-party agencies and track performance to ensure return on investment . Lead internal communications for Residential, including leadership briefing and people related communications. Provide communications support to the Executive Managing Director and Residential Board, including drafting of speeches and presentations. Build relationships with Residential's senior leaders, advise on strategic communications, and contributes to business goals. Establish relationships with key customers and stakeholders. Serve on both the Group's Communications and Marketing Leadership Team and the Residential Board.
