Contractor behind The Bank on Broad Street secures award for project as construction of the second tower building continues apace.
The Bank in Birmingham has won an industry accolade for its positive contribution to the city’s sustainable regeneration.
Wates Construction is rapidly heading towards completion of the second tower at the scheme, and has been honoured for its efforts to minimise environmental impact and leave a lasting social legacy through the delivery of the project.
Securing the sustainability award at West Midlands Celebrating Construction, Wates was commended for ensuring a reduced carbon footprint, engaged local community and for incorporating social enterprises as part of its local supply chain – despite the environmental challenges faced due to the confined city centre location.
With the limited space available for the urban construction site, sustainability measures implemented by Wates to-date include recycling 97% of construction waste, spending £75k with social enterprises, installing a green roof and green wall to encourage wildlife habitation and implementing a green travel plan which is seeing more than 50% of the site workforce cycle to and from the site.
The Bank is the brainchild of Regal Property Group and consists of more than 400 luxury apartments across two high rise towers that offer panoramic views across the city’s impressive skyline.
The scheme has already proven popular with homebuyers, with 90% of units sold off plan and Tower 1 almost fully occupied. The second tower, T2 is expected to complete before the end of the year. Once finished, it will be one of only two residential skyscrapers in the city to measure over 100m tall.
