Flagship Student Accommodation

Completed in late 2015, 60 Commercial Road represents a flagship student accommodation development for Wates Construction, further building on firm reputations for providing inner-city high-rise schemes, and catering for the student market.

Delivered for Pure Student Living in time for the new academic year, the completed 19-storey building created 417 en-suite bedrooms including kitchenettes with access to common areas and a gym on the first floor. The development, located next to London Metropolitan University, also includes prime-retail space on the ground floor and gives the whole building a 12,000 sq. m footprint. Also including green roof coverings and a sky lounge social space this accommodation really pushes the standards of ‘Student Digs’.

With its eye-catching geometric wave façade, combining concrete pre-cast modules with terracotta cladding, interspersed with full-height glazed panels, number 60 is the most visually striking development on Commercial Road.

Innovative solutions were used throughout the build, with value engineering exercises employed saving the client upwards of £1m.

"London continues to draw domestic and international students and in response, developers place consistent focus on delivering first-class accommodation to cater for the growing demand."
