We work on a range of contracts for government and local councils and are on 70% of the UK’s leading central and local government frameworks, as well as being a strategic supplier to the Department for Education (DfE) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). We are also on some of the UKs top regional building frameworks.

Providing beautiful, sustainable homes
We work with the public sector as a developer and a contractor. As a developer we work with partners such as Havering, Harrow and Cardiff Councils to deliver award winning mixed tenure housing schemes. By investing, developing, building and selling homes, we help address the need for more affordable houses, regenerate run-down areas, and create thriving new communities.
We have a pipeline of over 5,000 homes, with our partners typically supplying the land whilst we deliver the expertise and funding for development.
Our social housing maintenance team work with 60 local housing authorities up and down the country to ensure that their residents are safe and supported in their homes.
CREATING A GREEN FUTURE FOR EVERYONE
The race to net zero carbon
We are committed to helping the Government deliver on its net zero ambitions.
We have also joined forces with Arup and HKS Architects to form the Decarbonising Health Estates Partnership, to help the NHS in England meet its own challenging carbon reduction obligations.
Through our work with the Department for Education we are also building the UKs very first net zero schools in Lancashire and Greater Manchester and are building new net zero schools across the country
We are currently delivering 3,000 zero carbon upgrades to homes across the country through our Wates Retrofit offer – helping to make older homes fit for the future. And our 10-year programme with Cardiff Council has seen new low energy and Passivhaus standard homes joining the council’s housing stock.
Building back better
We support the ambition set out in the Government’s Levelling Up White Paper and our work is already helping to deliver in this area. Many of our largest projects are located outside of London and the South East and we are actively investing in the local economies where we operate – backing local suppliers and helping people to develop new skills. Our work drives growth and delivers value for both our customers and the communities we operate in.
Our work building and maintaining the civic offices of tomorrow are helping agencies such as HMRC and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) move their centres of operation out of London and create administrative hubs. This is helping to strengthen the Northern Powerhouse and provide jobs in regional areas right across the UK.
As a strategic supplier to the MoJ we are also working extensively with them to revitalise an ageing prison estate and creating modern working environments for the probation service.
We also support our emergency services with fit-out, refurbishment and facilities management to ensure that their buildings can meet the demands of the 21st century.

Collaborative working
We believe collaboration is the best way to drive innovation, improve efficiency and deliver the best value for money. That’s why we’ve been appointed by the MoJ to work with four other major construction firms on the Government’s new £1bn New Prison’s Programme, a unique alliance partnership.
Developing the Construction Playbook
As a trusted government partner we were also instrumental in helping to develop the Construction Playbook.
This 83 page blueprint is used by the Government to manage contractors and construction on all public sector projects.

We are working at the local council level to enhance communities by providing world-class leisure and sports facilities that create social hubs for people.
