New homes for Eastbourne and Wealden:

Creating a sustainable and inclusive community

We’re committed to delivering places that make a lasting, positive impact for both people and planet, and this scheme in Langney, Eastbourne, is a prime example of our vision in action.

Designed to foster a diverse and inclusive community, this development will provide a mix of private sale, private rental, and a ordable housing. Sustainability is at the heart of the project. New homes will enhance biodiversity, and the introduction of the ‘Chartway Bee’ initiative will help create pollinator-friendly spaces throughout the site. Community open spaces will provide areas for recreation, connection, and wellbeing.

In January 2024, the site – which spans the boundary of two LPA’s — was sold with outline planning permission to Chartway Partnerships Group, a land-led housebuilder in South-East England. Chartway shares our commitment to sustainable development and community impact, making them an ideal partner to bring this vision to life.

Benefits for people and planet:

  • Energy-efficient, multi-tenure homes incorporating renewable energy technologies.
  • 4 acres of public open space.
  • New sports playing field, community allotments and children’s play areas.
  • New network of roads, footways, and cycleways throughout the site.
  • Financial contributions to improve local public transport.

Reimagining places for people to thrive

Planning History

Brief Overview:

This scheme received outline planning permission from Eastbourne Borough Council and Wealden District Council in 2022.

Following its’ purchase of this strategically signifi cant site in early 2024, Chartway Partnerships Group went on to secure Reserved Matters Planning Approval for the scheme in January 2025.

The development was carefully designed to introduce a balanced and sustainable addition to the communities of Eastbourne and Wealden, providing new housing, open space and sporting facilities.

Housing will be a mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and apartments, together with a ordable homes available for rent and shared ownership. Community assets will be created through the inclusion of open space for use by the existing and future communities within the area, creating greater opportunities for social activities that promote health and well-being such as walking, cycling and play.

Sustainable urban drainage systems and landscape buyers will also feature on the site.

“Friday Street builds on our existing presence in East Sussex, over in Hastings we are currently delivering a brownfield regeneration project, developing 151 mixed-tenure new homes. Thank you to the hard work from all teams involved in the acquisition particularly to the team at Wates Developments and we look forward to developing the site to create a new community for the vibrant town of Eastbourne.”
