Nick Laugharne is Operations Director- Land and Residential Investment at Wates Developments, where he leads investments into new projects and oversees the Strategic Land, Technical, and Acquisitions & Disposals Directors. He also manages large-scale sites classified as Principal Developer and sits on both the Wates Developments Board and Strategy Board.

With over 20 years of experience in housebuilding, Nick began his career as a Land Manager before progressing through senior Land and Planning roles. He spent over 15 years in a major plc housebuilder and became Land Director in 2014 and later served as Managing Director of a Partnerships business before joining Wates in 2024. A Chartered Surveyor, Nick has extensive expertise in residential land transactions ranging from small scale housebuilding developments up to schemes of 4,500 homes across a range of agreement types; options, promotion agreements, conditional and unconditional acquisitions, joint ventures, consortium agreements, collaboration agreements as well as sales to housing associations and housebuilders.

Passionate about addressing the UK housing crisis, Nick thrives on the dynamic, fast-paced nature of land transactions and takes pride in developing talent within his teams. His professional philosophy is simple: “Did you deliver?”, – a principle that drives his approach to leadership and results.
