Ricky Martin is Business Unit Director on the Smartspace Board, leading our private sector work winning and project delivery teams. He joined Wates in 2007 as a site surveyor and progressed through the commercial ranks, working with major clients such as M&S, Waitrose and financial institutions.
Ricky has spent his entire Wates career in refurbishment and fit out, developing deep expertise in how to deliver high-quality, fast-paced projects in live environments. Before joining Wates, Ricky began his career with Balfour Beatty, working on the refurbishment of London Underground stations. He holds a degree in Law with Politics from the University of Southampton and a master’s in Quantity Surveying from London South Bank University.
Ricky brings extensive experience in long-term client relationships, commercial leadership and understanding the pressures and drivers of private sector customers. His focus is on broadening Smartspace’s offer, strengthening existing partnerships and expanding our presence into new regions and sectors.
Passionate about people and performance, Ricky works closely with teams across Smartspace to support talent development and deliver safe, high-quality projects to delight our customers. He is particularly proud of the Trinity Road project, delivered for Lloyds Banking Group in 2025, where close collaboration and a shared commitment to sustainability delivered fantastic outcomes.
