The North West Construction Hub, or NWCH, is a framework of contractors serving the North West, specifically Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Cheshire, of which Wates Construction is a member.
The framework’s suite of pre-approved contractors exists to ease the process of commissioning new projects at all stages. A streamlined and collaborative tendering process which is OJEU compliant, procurement can take place from RIBA stage 0 through to 4. Quick and efficient the rigorous pre-qualification process has already been undertaken, enabling appointment within six weeks if required.
Further, NWCH’s longstanding relationship with each of it’s framework contractors ensures a best-fit between contractor and client for each project. To date, the framework has produced 356 projects with a value of £1.75bn.
Of those 356 projects, 98% were completed either on time or early, 98% were completed on or under budget. As such, 64% of all the NWCH’s work to date has been with repeat customers.
Wates and the NWCH
The NWCH framework is made up of three bands based on project value: High (£9m+) Medium (£2m-£9m) and Low (£500k-£2m). Wates Construction sits across all three bands.

At Wates Group, all of our projects put community at the forefront of operations, and through our award winning Reshaping Tomorrow set of initiatives we deliver community investment, social value and education opportunities. Similarly, the North West Construction hub has a founding ethos of boosting the local economy and delivering additional value; each framework project has a set of community and recycling targets and to date 58% of all staff on projects have been employed locally, whilst 98% of all waste has been diverted from landfill.
Wates’ own initiatives centre on providing local training, employment and investment, contributing to local charitable and social enterprises and undertaking outreach projects with local education institutions.
