Last month, as part of our focus on Community & Conservation, just shy of 100 colleagues from across the Group came together at London Surrey Quays to prove how when we work together, communities can thrive, and we can help save lives.

The dragon boat race was the first of three large-scale cross company fundraising events this year for our charity partner PAPYRUS, who are dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.

From this event alone, the teams raised more than £22,000 for PAPYRUS, which has been matched by the Wates Family Enterprise Trust – the independent UK registered charity set up by the Wates family with an ambition to build communities and improve lives beyond tomorrow, doubling our donation to Papyrus.

This brings the total we have raised since we started supporting PAPYRUS to over £209,500.

The monies raised at the dragon boat race and across our other activities will help PAPYRUS to keep its helpline service running 24/7, giving young people help and hope whenever they need it.

Nothing is more important in life than keeping our children and young people safe. We are here every minute of every hour, 365 days of the year, giving hope to those who are struggling with thoughts of suicide.

“We are only able to do this thanks to the incredible generosity our supporters and partnerships with you, The Wates Group. Quite simply, the donations and fundraising events that Wates Group and its staff organise for PAPYRUS underpin everything we do. Events like the dragon boat race keep our Helpline service running 24/7. Thank you for the support to date and we look forward to continuing to work together to be here for life.”
