HomeNewsPlanning permission granted for 79 Net Zero Carbon Ready Homes in Billingshurst
Horsham District Council has granted approval to a planning application submitted by our Developments business for 79 net zero carbon ready homes – 28 of which will be available through affordable rent and shared ownership.
28 of the homes will be available through affordable rent and shared ownership
Plans include improvements to walking, cycling and public transport routes with bus stop improvements, dropped kerbs and tactile paving and new sheltered cycle parking at Billingshurst Railway Station
The proposal for the 10-acre site, north of Marringdean Road and close to local facilities in Billingshurst, was shaped in line with national and local planning policy and will support the significant demand for new housing provision in the district.
Key benefits of the site, which was fully supported by Council officers and recommended for approval, include energy efficient homes that will be powered by air-source heat pumps, improvements to key routes of the highway, traffic calming measures to Marringdean Road and an electric car club available to new and existing residents, providing the potential to achieve an 80% reduction in carbon emissions over and above the current Building Regulations.
In addition, the development will also deliver a high-quality, publicly accessible open space with a large, fully equipped play area for younger children in this part of Billingshurst.
We’re delighted to have the opportunity to provide vital new homes in this popular area. The new residents will greatly benefit from the wide range of services and strong community networks that are already present in Billingshurst including bus and train services, shops and local schools, making the site an attractive and sustainable location for a new development.
“The Wates team will be making a number of meaningful contributions and enhancements to the area as part of the development including implementing a range of active travel improvements such as new sheltered cycle parking at Billingshurst Railway Station, dropped kerbs and tactile paving on key routes to assist those who are visually impaired and bus stop improvements on Lower Station Road.
“We will also be adding a large play space to the area for younger children, creating an inclusive environment for families and encouraging social interaction.”
