Kate Hickey, Apprentice Manager, Wates Group, said:
“Apprentices at Wates are an integral part of our project and business support teams. They have a job role from day one, whether that is working with our subcontractors or supporting our commercial and production management teams. Apprentices also play an important part in our long term talent planning; they are our skilled tradespeople, managers and directors of the future.
The theme for this years National Apprenticeship Week is ladder of opportunity which is very fitting, as government reforms include the introduction of degree apprenticeships, meaning that there is no limit as to where an apprenticeship can lead.
At Wates we have a long history of employing apprentices and place great value on growing our own talent. Apprenticeships are a tried and tested way for us to bring new talent into the business, which is why we now offer apprenticeship programmes from Level two all the way through to Level six (degree).
Apprenticeships are not only valuable to our business; they provide the individuals with a real opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, as well as valuable on the job experience. An apprentice joining Wates could by their early 20s be degree qualified, hold a professional qualification and be earning a competitive salary whilst having no university debt.”
