The refurbishment of 102 New Street sees the transformation of this prominent building into Platform 21; a modern, contemporary, and dynamic collection of Grade A office suites, located in the heart of Birmingham city centre.
Originally constructed in the 1960s to house Woolworths, the building is now home to retailers Boots and Superdrug, plus restaurant Bella Italia, on the ground floor. Instantly recognisable due to its external ‘wall climber’ glass lift that faced onto New Street, Birmingham’s main pedestrian thoroughfare, it was a landmark building at the gateway to the city’s central retail offer but had become dated and tired.FIND OUT MORE ABOUT WATES CONSTRUCTION
It faced continued decline and risked becoming an eyesore just minutes from the city’s showpiece Grand Central Station. It needed vision to breathe new life and potential into the site and create an attractive building that would serve the city and its thriving business community long into the future.
Antonia Belcher Director, MHBC Cumming comments:
I just wanted to give my personal thanks to you and the Wates Platform 21 Team for getting the project to Practical Completion on the targeted revised project completion date.
As with all projects like Platform 21 there are a mountain of people involved climbing a proverbial mountain, but someone must be the leader to get there and have the vision it can be done whatever the weather and circumstances throw at it. You did it. Well done Wates Platform 21 Team.”
