A greener built environment

We collaborate with our supply chain partners to deliver on our sustainability targets, which will bring long-term social, economic and environmental benefits through our procurement activities.

Our target is for 89% of our suppliers to have approved Science Based Targets (SBTi) by 2027. Wates will work closely with our suppliers to support them in achieving this target. We also encourage all our suppliers to partner with the Supply Chain Sustainability School, who are able to facilitate free training and workshops to help improve knowledge and understanding of sustainability topics.

Wates Group are looking for a Supply Chain Manager to join our Smartspace team.This is a national role with responsibility for implementing the Wates Strategic Supply Chain Strategy across the Smartspace business, improving the resilience, capability, and performance of our supply chain, and leading a capable team to support delivery of our growth plans. The focus of this role is to develop and implement a regional supply chain strategy that supports both group objectives and the unique needs of Smartspace, our specialist fit-out and refurbishment business. You will play a key role in leading category management, supplier development and performance management – enabling high-quality project delivery and driving continuous improvement.As our Supply Chain Manager, you will: Work closely with the Smartspace leadership team to develop and embed a Supply Chain Strategy aligned with business growth plans. Lead the roll-out of Wates’ Category Management approach, developing and delivering strategies for key categories. Evaluate supplier capabilities and capacity and align procurement strategies with future business needs. Manage supplier onboarding to ensure compliance and successful integration into Smartspace operations. Segment and manage supplier relationships through structured reviews, updates, and engagement events including conferences and awards. Monitor and report on supplier performance using Wates’ scorecard system and performance dashboards. Collaborate with other divisions to optimise group buying power and drive best value. Provide leadership to a small, capable team, ensuring development, performance reviews, and succession planning are in place. Actively participate in the Group Supply Chain & Quality functional leadership team, contributing to improvement programmes and strategic planning.
