Overview

Rivertree Free School in Kempston is one of the UK’s largest SEND schools — a purpose-built environment designed to support 200 pupils aged 3 to 19 with specialist care and facilities tailored to their needs.

Every detail of the school has been shaped around the pupil experience. From hydrotherapy pools and therapy rooms to multi-use games areas and classrooms with fixed hoists, the design prioritises accessibility, dignity and wellbeing.

Beyond the building, we have prioritised protection of the natural environment. Located in a bat flight path, the site has been sensitively managed with ecologists to preserve habitats, including the installation of bat boxes, and maintenance of woodland corridors — ensuring biodiversity thrives alongside education.

This project demonstrates our commitment to helping every child feel safe, supported and inspired. By working closely with Bedford Borough Council and the local community, we’re creating a school that reflects the needs of its pupils — and gives families the confidence that their children can learn, grow and thrive close to home.
