Heritage Director, Wates Construction

Den Daley is Heritage Director for Wates Construction, bringing more than five decades of experience conserving and restoring some of London’s most treasured historic landmarks.

A Fellow of the Faculty of Building, Den began his career as an apprentice carpenter and has since progressed through every level of the construction management structure. He has led heritage restoration on many of the capital’s national assets, including Buckingham Palace, the National Gallery, Somerset House, and St Paul’s Cathedral. His expertise spans Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, with deep technical understanding of traditional materials, conservation methodology and craftsmanship standards. As Wates’ Listed Buildings Champion, Den provides strategic oversight, advising clients, designers and delivery teams on sensitive restoration approaches that protect heritage integrity while enabling modern functionality. His calm authority and depth of knowledge make him an indispensable advisor on complex conservation.
