We begin construction of sustainable SEMH school

Our Construction team joined young learners and representatives from Kirklees Council, Wellspring Academy Trust and Joseph Norton Academy to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new purpose-built school in Deighton, Huddersfield.
Built on a brownfield site, The Joseph Norton Academy will offer 3,563 sq ft of high-quality, state-of-the-art learning space that is able to support the needs of 132 children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. Designed with input from pupils, it will include teaching spaces for practical skills, recovery and immersive spaces, as well as multiple class gardens and a farm zone to befit its semi-rural location.
The project has been designed to be low-carbon and aims to achieve an EPC A+ rating by incorporating a range of sustainable design features. These include photovoltaic panels, high-performance LED lighting, advanced building fabric with low air permeability, high-efficiency heat recovery, CO₂-controlled ventilation, and the use of air source heat pumps.
This is our first project to be awarded through the Procure Partnerships Framework (PPF). PPF supports the delivery of publicly funded projects across the UK with a strong focus on enabling early collaboration between all partners. This approach has ensured an efficient and seamless start on site while still delivering strong value for money through rigorous supply chain analysis.
With construction now underway, the project is expected to complete at the end of 2026.
