Home News Wates haul two Gold and two Silver awards at Construction Manager of the Year 2016

Vince Finnegan of Wates Construction scooped the Gold Medal in the Restoration category for his work at The Royal Hospital in Chelsea. The project saw Vince make considerable programme and cost savings for the client whilst bringing the 17th-century facilities that house the Chelsea pensioners up to date with 21st-century conveniences.

Our second Gold of the evening went to previous Wates Construction employee David Norman in the New Build and Refurbishment £10-£14m category for his work on Dowty Propellers. With their factory destroyed by fire, David was tasked with completing a new facility within a six month time-frame so the client could keep their promises to their customers.

Lawrence Baxter of Wates Living Space Homes was awarded the first Silver of the evening in the Residential Seven Storeys and Under category for his extensive work at Erith Park. With a challenging programme arising from Government funding conditions Lawrences success stemmed from his clear focus on the critical path and appointment of a programming expert.

David Rowsell of Wates Construction scooped our second Silver in the Residential Over Seven Storeys category for his work on 60 Commercial Road. With a 19-storey student accommodation block to be built, there was no room for error in the timeframe, when delays hit numerous efficiencies were delivered including  getting temporary works incorporated with the ground works, ensuring the project was completed on time and on budget.

Dave Smith, Chief Operating Officer, Wates Group, commented:

“A fantastic achievement for our teams at last nights awards, our most successful evening in recent years. Congratulations to our winners, and all those shortlisted – the competition was incredibly strong this year and Im proud to see four of our managers receive well-deserved recognition for their achievements.”
