We are thrilled to announce that Wates has won the sub-regional project of the year at the North West Regional Construction Awards held on Thursday 10 July at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

The award was in recognition of the excellent work undertaken to build a new training academy in Aintree for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS), and collected by David Pierpoint, Anthony Holland and Steve Law.

The judges found that this project demonstrated exceptional compliance with Constructing Excellence principles and that the contractor and the client’s core objectives seamlessly aligned, creating a development where people can thrive.

One key area that impressed the judges was the focus on re-using materials where possible, including site won materials, but by identifying legacy equipment suitable for re-use or refurbishment solutions.

The end project has resulted in a world class training facility, that enhances their capacity to simulate and manage multiple incident scenarios simultaneously, providing realistic training conditions that closely replicate real-life emergencies.

A successful, award-winning project

The academy has successfully met the unique needs of the client and provides a safe and innovative training area for fire fighters, boosting, local, national and international emergency response capabilities.

We also nominated Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service who deservedly won the Client of the year award for working in close collaboration with the project team from the very beginning of the project.

We are incredibly proud to have won this award. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our team, our partners, and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

“Together, we have delivered a world leading training facility that meets the operational needs of today’s firefighters and reflects our shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and creating a positive community impact. It’s an honour to see our values in action and celebrated by the industry.”
