A global milestone for climate action – and a motivating moment for Wates

Science-based targets not only guide climate action; they remove confusion, focus effort, and help create the stable conditions in which organisations can operate and succeed.
That’s why it is so encouraging, and strategically important, to see the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) confirm that more than 10,000 companies worldwide now have validated science-based targets.
With over 40% of global market capitalisation now covered by these targets, there is a clear critical mass of commercial commitment behind the transition to a low carbon economy.
Here at Wates, this moment is both inspiring and galvanising.

We have played an active role in the Supply Chain Sustainability School’s climate action working group, supporting the launch of new e learning to help suppliers set targets through SBTi’s fast track route. As the urgency to address the climate crisis grows, so too does the opportunity for the built environment sector to lead by example. Now is the moment for businesses across our industry to accelerate science-based climate action and help shape a resilient, thriving future.
As one of the 10,000 companies with validated targets, we’re proud to stand with organisations putting science at the centre of climate action, and to show that real, accelerating momentum is building across the global business community.
