Wates Residential has been appointed as development partner to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to manage a flagship ‘site cluster’ development project which will create almost 200 much-needed new homes.
The site cluster approach adopted by the council is an innovative model designed to increase the numbers of homes for local residents. Houses are built over several sites, not only in desirable locations, but crucially in places that would otherwise be left undeveloped . The council expects the project will act as a catalyst for stimulating wider regeneration across Rotherham.
The project will provide a mixture of properties for outright sale and starter homes; shared ownership; affordable rent and specialist housing.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Dominic Beck, said:
“Like many parts of the UK, Rotherham has an urgent need to deliver more homes for affordable rent and sale. I’m delighted that these ambitious plans have been approved. With these homes we can start to see our vision for a revitalised town coming to fruition. We are committed to delivering new housing; and this includes specialist housing that is accessible and adaptable, accommodating the changing needs and circumstances of local people as well as adding vibrancy and vitality to under-used areas.”
Mick Holling, Business Director, Wates Residential, said:
“Following the award of the site cluster project to Wates Residential, our team has been in close consultation with Rotherham Council to establish a deep-rooted understanding of the build technicalities involved and to develop a comprehensive build schedule for the scheme.
The council has set out an innovative vision for the scheme and our carefully selected project team is primed to deliver on these aspirations to create energy efficient homes that will fulfil the needs of local people.”
Cllr Beck added:
“Wates were chosen for their forward-thinking designs, innovative approach and high standard construction processes and a tailored aftersales package. Wates is an experienced delivery partner and can expertly manage the entire process.”
The three-year programme is to be delivered in three phases, with building starting in 2017. It is envisaged that homes will be available for rent and sale from 2019.
