The former recording studio will become a new housing development providing 100% affordable housing for local people.
Wates Residential was appointed to deliver 71 new homes at Shuttleworth Road as part of Wandsworth Council’s ‘Housing for All’ programme which aims to increase the number of affordable homes for local people.
The development consists of 62 social rented apartments and nine shared ownership homes ranging from one to three bedroom apartments. Main construction works began on site in December 2019 and work is expected to complete in Spring 2021.
- Members of the Shuttleworth Road site team volunteered their time to re-decorate the Katherine Low Settlement Charities offices over three days. Wates Residential donated £400 worth of materials and created £5,670 in Social Value.
- Nursery children from Fledglings Kindergarten, opposite the Shuttleworth Road site, drew pictures of what they could see on site including builders wearing hard hats, machinery and diggers which were transposed onto the hoarding panels.
- Jennifer Ugele completed one week’s work experience with Marta Vuletic, SHE Advisor for Wates Residential at Shuttleworth Road. Jennifer was referred to Wates Residential for a placement through Women into Construction, a non-profit organisation that promotes gender equality in the construction industry.
- In September 2018 Wates Residential hosted a Building Futures programme aimed at unemployed adults to help kick-start their careers. Eight Wandsworth residents took part in the two-week course, working towards gaining a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card and achieving a Level 1 Health and Safety Award in construction. The course also included workshops in CV writing and interview skills to support participants in finding a job.
Wates Residential cemented its relationship with Wandsworth Council further on its second site with the local authority, building 22 new homes at Stag House. This scheme was completed in Summer 2020.FIND OUT MORE HERE
