Wates Smartspace delivered its first project for British Land in 2014, undertaking a 20 week refurbishment of its Park Lane shopping mall which is housed within the popular Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield.

The Meadowhall refurbishment saw Wates Smartspace undertake a complete programme of redecoration at the mall, working within a challenging live trading environment and with high level access to contend with.

The Refurbishment

Works included wrapping dated internal pillars with a more modern design, installing stainless steel skirting, re-designing ventilation to create feature panels and fitting white corian wall panels. A significant proportion of these works were programmed at night to minimise disruption and maintain high safety standards.

Wates Smartspace also remodelled the mall’s original lighting system, adding emergency light strips and feature curved light panels. Central to the design is a landmark glazed roof with feature ‘colour wash’ system that has over 37,000 remotely programmable permutations.

The outcome

On completion, the centre’s management team informed Wates that it had not received a single complaint or adverse comment by any of its tenants throughout the duration of the contract.
