Wates has been involved in the refurbishment and fitout of M&S stores for over 16 years, delivering over £500m of work across three workstreams.
Wates Smartspace has delivered over 200 Food hall stores and 50 full line stores across the UK and Ireland. Works involve the full installation of mechanical and electrical, fixtures, fittings and equipment for both front of house and the back of house preparation areas. The Masterbrand workstream consisted of the external rebranding of 188 stores nationwide in 24 weeks.
Specific example of an M&S project was the fit out for the Kingsley Village store, which was completed in October 2019. The project consisted of fitting out a newly constructed shell to form a full line Marks & Spencers store. The programme of work ran for 15 weeks and covered an area of 68,000sq ft that included a revamped food hall, café with customer WCs and general merchandise areas.
The project was located near Newquay so a seven-day working shift pattern was developed which allowed Smartspace to minimise the impact of supply chain travelling time. The project was completed on time with no incidents and very well received by Marks and Spencer.
