Home News We make a special donation to Homerton Hospital’s Neonatal Unit

Members of our Smartspace business and Andy Wates were warmly welcomed at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Hospital in Hackney to hand over a cheque for funds raised for their Neonatal Unit.

Funds were raised at Smartspace’s annual supply chain event earlier in the year, with this year’s fundraising being especially meaningful, as Smartspace Site Manager, Patrick Shah-Regan’s wife, Panchali, leads the neonatal physiotherapy team at Homerton.

Thanks to the generosity of our supply chain partners and matched funding from WFET, we raised an incredible £21,567.02 for the unit.

Homerton’s Neonatal Unit is one of the UK’s leading centres for the care of extremely premature and seriously unwell newborns. The team cares for babies born from just 22 weeks gestation, some weighing less than 500g, as well as very sick term babies needing intensive care. The funds raised will go directly towards improving facilities, helping the unit continue its vital work supporting families during incredibly difficult times.

thank you message

A key focus for this year’s donation is updating and modernising the expressing room for parents. When families arrive in the neonatal intensive care unit, they can often be overwhelmed, confused, and distressed. Mothers are typically asked to express breast milk at least eight times a day to provide vital nutrition for their babies so it’s vital they have a welcoming and comfortable space to support their needs. This vital donation will ensure that these newborns and families are well supported in their time of need.

Thank you to everyone who contributed, attended, and helped make this partnership possible.

Together, we’re making a real difference for families and newborns in need.
