Home News Construction well underway on Waungron Road housing and transport hub

Work is progressing well on a new development in Llandaff, Wales, where our Residential business is delivering 44 energy-efficient council homes and a fully integrated transport hub.

The site, previously home to a recycling centre, is being transformed through our Cardiff Living partnership with Cardiff Council.

The development will offer one and two-bedroom council apartments, alongside office and commercial space. A new access road will connect Waun-Gron Park Train Station with a purpose-built bus interchange, helping people travel across Cardiff without needing to go through the city centre.

The transport hub will support up to 40 bus movements an hour, with routes running west to south, north to south, and west to east and back again.

The homes are designed to be highly energy-efficient, with ground source heat pumps and solar panels that go beyond current energy standards. Most will be allocated to people on the city’s housing waiting list, with some used as temporary supported accommodation for those moving on from homelessness. On-site support staff will help residents take the next step towards independent living.

By combining new homes with better transport links, the scheme will improve connectivity and make it easier for people to travel by train, bus, bike or on foot.

I’m pleased to see work now underway on our Waun Gron Road scheme. It’s one of several active developments that, together, will deliver nearly 600 new homes for Cardiff, and of course we have hundreds more in the pipeline as part of our ambitious plans to deliver 4,000 new homes for the city.

This development represents a practical step forward in our efforts to expand Cardiff’s supply of affordable housing. By combining permanent and supported accommodation with integrated transport links, we’re delivering a scheme that meets a range of housing needs while improving access to services and opportunities across the city.”

Cllr Lynda Thorne

Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities

The Council is committed to improving bus travel across the city to ensure that those who travel by bus can reach their destination more quickly and enjoy a better experience. Although the Council does not operate or manage commercial bus services, we are responsible for providing the infrastructure to improve bus routes. The new bus interchange on Waun Gron Road will enable people to travel to a variety of destinations without needing to go into the city centre first.”

Councillor Dan De’Ath

Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Strategic Planning & Transport

A thriving place isn’t defined by great homes alone. It’s shaped by how people connect – to each other, to opportunities and to the wider city. At Waun Gron Road, we’re proud to be delivering affordable, energy-efficient homes alongside a transport hub that makes everyday travel simpler and more sustainable. This is a development that truly creates a place for people to thrive.”
