A consultation-led design that strongly incorporated community feedback.
As part of Camden Council’s Community Investment Programme (CIP), the community-driven facility benefits from an integrated approach. The consultation ensured that the building and space creates a new area that the community can be proud of and supports the Council’s aspirations.
The Community Centre on the ground floor provides valuable resources and enjoys access to an outdoor garden room and creche, whilst the Health Centre above will provide new modern consultation and surgery rooms.
The two uses are designed so that they can operate in tandem as good neighbours. The design has been future-proofed to enable the entire building to operate as a single entity. The modern and contemporary architectural approach uses a series of timber vertical elements to create an organic and playful “barcode” pattern on the building elevations.
Highly commended
The Abbey Centre was highly commended and runner up at the New Build Project of the Year at the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management Awards, 2023.
The Abbey Centre Community Health Hub was highly commended in the Best Healthcare Development (UK > £10m) category at the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2023.
