Nicola has been in the construction industry for 27 years, 14 of those have been extensively involved in Education Design. As Education Design Director, Nicola design leads on our 2021-2025 DfE National Framework.

Since taking over the role of Education Design Director in 2023, Nicola exemplifies positive behaviours, collaborating with DfE and our design panel to ensure seamless compliance, champion the importance of design and zero carbon solutions. Always recognising the value they create for our customers and how critical it is to get it right to facilitate the effective delivery. Nicola builds and maintains effective relationships with our customers and designers ensuring understanding in education trends and pedagogy to maximise value and mitigate risk.

Nicola provides National design leadership with expert education design advice and is responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining a systemised design approach for the delivery of education projects for the education market. Responsibilities for developing design solutions with multi-disciplinary teams that meet or exceed DfE requirements on projects ensuring high design quality standards, continuous improvement & efficiency are delivered.

Nicola’s career has involved engineering construction operations on site. This provides Nicola with a unique ability to understand design and operational buildability and bring critical thinking for Health & Safety, logistics and programme delivery to design discussion very early .

Nicola’s passion and personal purpose is to deliver better schools more efficiently. Nicola drives a high performance culture and consistently seeks improvements in design that have a direct benefit to the DfE and all school users.
