Wates Games 2025: Championing mental wellbeing and supporting Papyrus
This commitment is woven into our purpose of creating places where people thrive, and it’s something we act on all year round.

One way we’ve shown our commitment to mental health this year was through the 2025 Wates Games, held last month. Colleagues from across Wates and our valued supply chain partners gathered at Moseley Rugby Club for a spirited fundraising event in support of our charity partner, PAPYRUS.
Despite a few brief spells of rain, the day was marked by high energy, camaraderie, and a strong sense of purpose. From the opening warm-up to the final raffle draw – which impressively sold out by lunchtime – the atmosphere was vibrant, filled with encouragement, laughter, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit.
Six teams took to the pitch, each demonstrating commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Matches were fast-paced and closely contested, showcasing moments of athletic excellence and light-hearted rivalry. Spectators, including colleagues, friends, and the competing teams, added to the lively environment with enthusiastic support from the sidelines.
At the close of play, it was the West Warriors from Wates Construction West who emerged victorious, proudly lifting the winner’s trophy.

This year’s event proudly supported PAPYRUS, the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. Suicide remains the leading cause of death among under-35s in the UK, and Papyrus works tirelessly to challenge stigma and provide life-saving support to young people and their communities.
