More than 2,500 UK homes are set to receive energy‑efficiency upgrades following the award of four contracts to WPS, the property services arm of Wates Group.

Across the four contracts, awarded through the Greener Futures Partnership Decarbonisation Delivery framework (GFP) – managed by Pretium, WPS will deliver upgrades through funding secured in the third wave of the Government’s Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (WHSHF).

Working alongside Habinteg Housing Association, who provide homes for people with disabilities, WPS will carry out a programme of fabric improvements and renewable technologies – including loft insulation, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and air-source heat pumps. The £11 million contract will improve the energy efficiency of 790 properties across the North-East and London.

In South Yorkshire, WPS will provide a series of fabric upgrade works over three years for Sheffield City Council, including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and upgraded windows and doors across 1,300 homes. Co-funded with £6.5 million, the project focuses on low-cost measures to help properties achieve an EPC band C rating. This initiative builds on WPS’s long-standing relationship with the council, which has included an aids and adaptations programme and fire prevention works to four high-rise blocks since 2017.

WPS has also been appointed by Sanctuary to undertake a comprehensive package of energy efficiency measures to 340 properties in Ely, Cambridgeshire. The £4 million project will include the installation of solar PV systems and air-source heat pumps, supported by retrofit assessments, coordination and design by in-house PAS consultants, NetZero Collective.

Finally, WPS will support the improvement of energy performance in 146 Home Group properties in Newcastle as part of a £2 million programme under WHSHF Wave 3.

Having already delivered more than £200 million of energy optimisation measures through the earlier phases of the Government’s funding, we are proud to continue championing the decarbonisation of homes in Wave 3. This work is not only positive for the climate – it also promotes better health and economic outcomes for residents by reducing the risk of damp and mould and providing homes that are warmer and more affordable to heat.

“The GFP framework is a powerful enabler for driving decarbonisation at scale, and we are proud to play our part in a collaborative effort that is helping the social housing sector meet its 2030 EPC targets and progress further towards net zero.”

The GFP Decarbonisation Delivery Framework is a true partnership between five of the biggest social housing landlords in the UK, Pretium, and our suppliers.

“The work being carried out by WPS, from London to the North-East, demonstrates how effective collaboration can truly be, especially when it comes to improving the warmth and energy efficiency of social housing across the UK.”
