Home News Reflecting on housing collaboration with North Warwickshire Borough Council

From a humble two-year contract in 2015, ten years on WPS maintains 1,750 homes working collaboratively with North Warwickshire Borough Council (NWBC) to deliver a shared vision for better living environments.

With a stock of more than 2,500 homes to maintain and a population of around 66,000 in the borough, the council faces challenges to provide good quality homes and meet changing regulatory and compliance obligations – particularly around decent homes, damp and mould, the Building Safety Act and energy efficiency targets.

WPS began supporting NWBC in 2015 with a contract of works initially providing disabled wet rooms and void refurbishments before the relationship expanded with a planned housing maintenance works contract to refurbish low-rise and mid-rise flat blocks in 2019.

This expansion of the contract reflected our ability to meet NWBC’s evolving needs, support their expanding housing portfolio and help reduce waiting lists, so we were delighted to help improve even more homes across the borough.”

Under this evolving framework, WPS now delivers a wide range of services – from kitchen and bathroom installations, FRA fire doors, and external wall insulation to high-value voids and reactive maintenance. This has all been delivered with an exemplary safety record, with zero major safety incidents across a decade of delivery.

The largest project at Abbey Green Court, saw a comprehensive package of retrofit measures delivered to enhance insulation and energy efficiency. The improvements included a new pitched roof, enhanced glazing, and external wall insulation – supporting the council on their journey toward achieving EPC C by 2030.

Over the years, WPS has successfully delivered several technically challenging projects for NWBC, often under difficult circumstances. In 2020 and 2021, major refurbishments at Monument View and Olbury View were completed safely during national lockdowns, with strict adherence to government guidance. In 2023, WPS completed a flat-to-pitched roof conversion at Drayton Court, overcoming unique structural challenges due to the level of the ground and surrounding buildings. These projects reflect the trust NWBC places in WPS to deliver safe, high-impact improvements.

Locally rooted partnerships with suppliers like Aspark Group, Emerald Installations, and P&H Builders further ensure that community investment is not just promised – it’s practiced.

We’ve continued a long-standing collaboration with Recycling Lives, a social enterprise for waste removal, whose initiatives fund offender rehabilitation, residential support and food redistribution.”

“Through our long-standing support of NWBC’s chosen charity, Doorway, we’ve demonstrated dedication to our purpose – reimagining places for people to thrive. Each year, we complete a full kitchen and bathroom installation in just one day for disadvantaged young people – supporting NWBC’s commitment to relieving and preventing homelessness. In 2024 alone, we contributed over £2,000 in seasonal donations – part of a sustained five-year effort to uplifting those most in need.”

We couldn’t do what we do without the WPS team. They are a trusted, valued partner of ours who provide excellent support to our organisation. Although we are a small authority, we feel we get the same service and supporting resource that larger organisations would receive. They deliver what they say they’re going to and provide open communication – the relationships are consistently productive.”
