On 22 May, the industry came together at the 10th WICE (Women In Construction & Engineering) Awards to celebrate over 140 people who are helping to shine a spotlight on construction and engineering as a career of choice for women.

From the women making waves in numerous roles within the industry to the allies and mentors supporting and advancing them on their journeys, the awards act as a who’s who in breaking down barriers and taking the industry to the next level. So, it was fantastic to see Wates colleagues win four awards – including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award.

WICE 2025 Lifetime Achievement in Engineering

The Wates winners this year were:

  • Sam Johnson, Regional Social Value Manager, SES, who took home the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award,
  • Kerry Barkworth, Senior SHE Advisor, Smartspace, who came away with the award for Best Health & Safety
  • Melody Wood, Senior Planner, Construction, who won the Best Construction Planner award, and
  • Darren Ecclestone, Work Winning Director, Smartspace, who picked up the Best Mentor award.

As well as crowning the winners, the event recognised and celebrated all the finalists – which included another eight Wates colleagues:
