Home News Wates strengthens board with commercial director hire

Wates has appointed Paul Griffin as commercial director to its board, to help drive strategy and bolster its commercial function across all areas of the business.

Paul brings more than 20 years’ experience within the construction industry, initially beginning his career at Wates as a commercial trainee, rising through the company in a variety of commercial roles before spending four years in the development sector.

His experience spans multiple strategic sectors including private residential, education, commercial, refurbishment and heritage builds, with his prior roles in the development sector bringing a clear understanding of client requirements.

His role on the Construction Group Board will see Paul play a vital role in leading Wates’ commercial function as a business and driving output on some of its largest and most exciting schemes, including gigafactory Envision in Sunderland, and work on the Parliamentary Northern Estate Programme.

Investing in a strong commercial function is essential for us to continue delivering the best possible service to our clients, regardless of the economic headwinds currently impacting the construction industry.

Paul’s appointment is key to this. It strengthens both our customer offer and our approach to investing in people and operations, all of which will help us reach our business strategy ambitions by 2025 and beyond. I’m thrilled to welcome him at board level and look forward to seeing the benefits he will bring.”
