The Life and Mind Building takes centre stage – and the front cover of Building magazine!

On Tuesday 18 November 2025, we joined the University of Oxford to mark the opening of the Life and Mind Building (LaMB), a landmark research and teaching facility that brings Biology and Experimental Psychology together under one roof.

Delivered by Wates Construction South with SES Engineering Services, and in partnership with Legal & General through Oxford University Development, LaMB will help researchers tackle global challenges from biodiversity loss and food security to mental health and AI.

Our team also hosted guided tours during the ceremony, showcasing the building’s specialist labs, flexible teaching spaces and the construction journey behind them.

Huge thanks to everyone, including tour leads Peter O’Malley, Marco Lorenzana (SES) and Colin Ludlow, and to our wider project team and supply chain for the expertise and dedication that made this possible.

We were honoured to celebrate alongside The Rt Hon Lord William Hague (Chancellor), Professor Irene Tracey (Vice‑Chancellor) and Sir Paul Nurse, together with Tim Wates (Chairman), Eoghan O’Lionaird (CEO), Pat Fitzgerald (Chief Commercial Officer), Mark Craig (Managing Director, UK South) and David Seaman (Commercial Director, UK South).
