Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service required the construction of new fire station accommodation in Prescot as part of their Station Mergers programme.
The community fire station incorporates operational and welfare accommodation, community meeting rooms and additional facilities, external drill and training spaces and associated car-parking; with additional space allocated on the ground floor for a new Neighbourhood Police Station.

To maximise local spend, Wates held a ‘Meet the Buyer’ day, conducted with the Local Chamber of Commerce and Community partners.
Wates committed to and exceeded a target of 90%+ of the workforce for the New Community Fire Station as being local.
Wates supply chain appointments were also encouraged to cascade these local labour targets as part of their contract
Partnering with the local Huyton Prince’s Trust team, Wates offered young people site-based work placements, support community volunteering activities and give ‘careers in construction’ advice sessions
Five young people have been offered supported employment and training opportunities with three of them choosing to start training as either Quantity Surveyors or Multi-skilled apprentices
