HOME is a new purpose built multi-arts complex in Manchester City Centre which has enabled the merger of Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company.

Situated in Manchester city centre, the HOME at First Street cultural centre was a hugely logistically challenging project procured under the collaborative framework known as the North West Construction Hub (NWCH). The completed project houses a 500-seat theatre; a 150-seat flexible theatre; a 500m2, 4m high gallery space, five cinema screens, digital production and broadcast facilities; a café bar and restaurant.

This back of pavement construction project, with an existing viaduct carrying a mainline railway just 6 metres away, also had adjacent concurrent large construction sites being constructed as part of the wider First Street development. Consequently close interaction and communication between Wates and the adjacent contractor played a key part in the success of the overall scheme.

It is great news that we have reached this significant milestone on the journey to create our new home. Getting here is testament to the hard work of our design team and our partners
