Millbank House

GRADE II LISTED OFFICE BLOCK FOR UK PARLIAMENTARY ESTATE

Refurbishment of Millbank House

The refurbishment of a Grade 2* listed office block, including heritage repairs to existing wood panelling, mosaic tiling, roofing, stonework and façade. The project over all value was £21.5m.

The building works also include for the installation of a new glazed walkway to the internal courtyard along with a multi storey glass core containing a new lift to provide circulation space between all wings of the building and provide a garden space for the use of peers.

The works to Millbank form a key part of the refurbishment to the wider Parliamentary Estate, with the completed building used as decant space, which subsequently releases significant other works throughout the Estate.

This project was procured under the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), a collaborative framework, using a two stage procurement process.

Added value

During the second stage tender we provided in excess of 1,500 man days, which bought experience and foresight to deal with a numerous programme and logistical issues.

We developed a logistics plan that incorporated the use of a tower crane to minimise the number of road closures required around the Houses of Parliament.

We also provided invaluable feedback into the buildability of the design, including a number of alternatives that would significantly de-risk the project and provide the client with a more flexible work space.

We have also suggested significant value creation, to help alleviate the clients budget restraints for demonstrating value for money.
