Leanne Evans - Project Director, Wates Construction North Home Counties

Introduce yourself for us
I am Leanne and a Project Director working for Northern Home Counties.

How long have you been in your current role?

I have been with the Wates business for 4 months and in the construction industry for 21 years.

What brought you to Wates?
My own personal Career progression, however I chose Wates because of the Project diversity and opportunity, as well as the businesses willingness and desire to make a difference in the Construction Industry.

What advice would you give to women entering the industry?
The Construction Industry allows you to be who you want to be and learn about new technologies in our changing world. No day is the same, and every day you learn something new. If you are passionate about making change then the construction industry is definitely for you. There are such a variety of roles in the industry – there really is something for everyone.

Who are your role models?
Dame Judi Dench; she has had some amazing roles in theatre, TV and Film and made every single one of her appearances her own. Most famously she was ‘M’ in Bond which proves that at any stage of your life you can challenge yourself and the so called “status quo”.

Tell us something unusual about you
I climbed and hiked for 17 days across the Great Wall of China and experienced the most amazing sight of the Terracotta Army first hand which was breath-taking.

What changes would you like to see in 100 years time?
To not be discussing “Gender pay gaps” and whether there are enough “Women in Construction” and / or “high business positions” as it is just normal that the best person for the job is doing it.
