Head of Estimating

Wates are looking for a Head of Estimating to join our Construction Group.The Head of Estimating will lead the estimating function, ensuring the adoption of new processes, upholding standards, and utilising appropriate methodologies and software to enhance accuracy and competitiveness in project pricing.ABOUT THE ROLEThis role is central in refining estimating procedures by analysing data trends, inflation, and industry standards, and ensuring the seamless integration of cost planning and commercial functions. The incumbent will drive the effectiveness of the estimating function, influence industry standards, and ensure the development of Estimating trainees, fostering a robust talent pipeline. While not directly managing Estimators, this role has dotted line responsibilities across regions, supporting Pre Construction Directors in achieving a consistent and effective Estimating practice.As our Head of Estimating, some of your key responsibilities will include: Leadership of the Estimating Function: Provide strategic leadership to ensure that processes, methodologies, and software are optimally utilised across all estimating activities Quality and Standards Oversight: Review estimates to ensure they meet the required standards of accuracy and competitiveness, addressing potential risks and omissions effectively. Governance and Compliance: Ensure all project estimates comply with company governance, using standardised software and documentation to support effective project approvals Cross-Functional Integration: Facilitate effective collaboration between the cost planning, commercial, and estimating functions to ensure cohesive project execution and profitability.The ideal candidate should possess a profound understanding of estimating techniques and cost management strategies across various types of construction projects and contract types, with a demonstrable understanding of how to develop pricing and profit strategies and the ability to analyse pricing data to identify risks and opportunities.
