Darren Birch is the Justice Sector Lead for Wates Construction, with more than 30 years of experience across the construction industry. Having worked on both the client and contractor side, he has successfully led and supported the delivery of complex programmes across a diverse range of sectors including justice, education, healthcare, commercial, residential, industrial and logistics.
Throughout his career, Darren has developed extensive expertise in commercial management, project delivery, preconstruction, framework governance, bid leadership, stakeholder engagement and business development.
Darren began his career as a trainee quantity surveyor before progressing through commercial, preconstruction and project management roles to senior leadership positions. Most recently, he served as a National Framework Manager, where he was responsible for the governance, performance management and strategic growth of major public sector frameworks.
As Justice Sector Lead, Darren is focused on strengthening and enhancing Wates Construction’s position as a trusted delivery partner to the Ministry of Justice. He is responsible for bringing together expertise from across the business, aligning sector strategies, deepening client relationships and ensuring that we continue to respond effectively to the evolving priorities of this sector. By connecting teams, sharing best practice and fostering collaboration, Darren is committed to helping deliver meaningful outcomes that support a modern, efficient and world-class justice system for communities across the UK.
