Making Roof Space Work: Solar Design for the Future Homes Standard
SolarTyle is helping housebuilders meet the demands of the Future Homes Standard by making better use of available roof space for solar.
The Future Homes Standard requires solar coverage equivalent to 40% of a home’s ground-floor area. Fitting this onto modern roof designs can be challenging. Traditional large panels can struggle to fit around hips, valleys, dormers and other roof features, meaning less efficient areas of the roof may need to be used.
SolarTyle’s smaller-format solar tiles can fit into areas conventional panels cannot, allowing more solar to be positioned on the best-performing parts of the roof. On a live housing development, this approach achieved 20% more annual energy generation from the same system size, simply by making better use of the most efficient roof elevations.
