How we are helping nature thrive – as featured in The Guardian
Wates Group has been featured in The Guardian, following the release of a report from the Green Finance Institute and WWF-UK.
The report, which warns that nature loss could shrink the UK’s GDP by nearly 5 per cent, calls on the private sector to play a bigger role in reversing environmental decline and highlights how businesses can take action through nature-positive transition pathways (NPPs).
These pathways offer sector-specific roadmaps to help companies support biodiversity, meet national nature targets, and unlock economic benefits, just as net-zero pathways guide decarbonisation.
At Wates, we’re already taking action. We’ve committed to increasing biodiversity on our sites by 20 per cent, which is double the mandatory minimum. We’re also:
- Mapping the impact of our supply chain to target areas where we can make the greatest difference.
- Integrating nature into commercial decision-making, so nature-positive choices become standard practice, for us and our customers.

The report features over 40 examples of UK businesses seeing financial returns by investing in nature restoration or reducing environmental harm.
More than 25 major UK organisations have already signalled their support for NPPs.
