Executive Managing Director, Wates Construction

Steff Battle is the Executive Managing Director of Wates Construction, having been appointed in late 2023.

A Wates veteran, Steff joined the company in 1995 and spent his first 18 years in regional roles, including five years as Regional Director. He later led the pre-construction function for Wates Construction Group, including SES Engineering Services, for over six years.

In his role, Steff leads Wates’ highest-revenue Division, with a national footprint and a portfolio spanning public and private sectors. He is known for his sharp focus on delivering projects to time, cost, and quality, while upholding the highest safety standards.

A passionate advocate for diversity, Steff champions gender inclusion in construction. He has played a key role in elevating policies that support women in the sector, including sponsoring and judging the Women in Construction Awards. He actively promotes networking opportunities with industry leaders such as Dr Carol Massay and Michaela Wain to inspire and empower women in construction.

Steff believes true allyship means listening, learning, and using one’s platform to amplify underrepresented voices. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and able to thrive.
