worthwhile work

Everyone can make a difference.

We pride ourselves on always providing a service beyond buildings and are thrilled to have been presented with a Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development as well as Business in The Community's Company of the Year.

The dynamic nature of our work gives us a real opportunity to make a difference to local communities and to protect the environment. Our award-winning approach to corporate responsibility is simple: we deliver for our customers, we look after our people, we protect the environment and we support people and communities in need.

We focus on three core programmes setting ourselves ambitious targets to minimise waste, reduce carbon and boost skills. Each of our sites and offices has initiatives running where everyone is encouraged to get involved and make a difference.

respect

Respect in all that we do.

People businesses, like ours, are rooted in respect. As a family-owned business respect for people, communities and the environment is embedded in our values. Our people are expected to treat each other as they would wish to be treated themselves. We care passionately about safety and wellbeing and our ambition is that every employee feels that Wates is the best company they have ever worked for.

Our annual employee survey shows that our people are very proud to work for Wates which is a fact we never take for granted. Respect for equality and diversity is high on our agenda. We know there is always progress to be made but we are working hard to address this throughout our business. We are proud to have been awarded C2E accreditation.

By investing in your development we will create the environment for you to grow and to fulfil your career ambitions. Our ethos is to promote from within. We provide support from on-the-job training, technical and interpersonal skills training through to leadership development courses and professional development paths.

We have a two-stage appraisal process to ensure development opportunities are identified. Every year we provide an average of 5 days' training per employee. We are currently supporting 10% of our people through professional development programmes and our structured leadership strategy ensures we develop potential and existing leaders at all levels.
