The Vacancy
Wates Group are looking for a Cost Planner in our London region to provide robust, accurate cost planning and early-stage estimating across a diverse pipeline of work. You’ll play a key role in shaping bids and pre‑construction strategy, ensuring cost certainty from concept through to tender and beyond.
Working closely with bid teams, pre‑construction colleagues, development team, consultants and clients, you’ll deliver high‑quality cost advice on complex and high‑value schemes (including projects in excess of £100m), helping to ensure commercial success and profitable delivery.
As a Cost Planner, you will:
- Produce accurate and detailed cost plans across all relevant RIBA stages and OGC gateways
- Confident in producing NRM full elemental and detail cost plan.
- Produce early stage budget cost to facilitate development appraisal model
- Drive design development during stage 0-3 with a focus on cost efficiency
- Engaging with supply chain partners for specialist pricing advice, rate validation and market intel.
- Identifying risks and opportunities within the cost plan/estimate
- Provide expert cost advice to bid teams, including managing change through the cost planning process
- Prepare tender and construction inflation forecasts
- Develop benchmarking reports using elemental rates, key rates and sector analysis
- Create bespoke cost planning solutions aligned to bidding and client objectives
- Build effective working relationships with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders
