Wates Property Services is looking for an experienced and proactive Fabric Engineer to join our on-site team at the renowned Wellcome Genome Campus. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a collaborative, high-performing environment, delivering essential maintenance services across a large, prestigious campus.
🔍 About the Role
As a Resident Fabric Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering a wide range of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, and minor lifecycle works. You’ll ensure the integrity and safety of the site’s buildings, plant, and systems, while responding to engineering emergencies as required.
🧰 Key Responsibilities
- Carry out multi-skilled fabric maintenance and repairs across the site
- Use the client’s CAFM system via mobile device to manage and update job tickets
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety standards, including preparing risk assessments and method statements
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with company policies
- Deliver excellent customer service and communicate effectively with stakeholders
🔧 Typical Tasks Include
- Door maintenance and repair (including fire doors – training provided)
- Basic plumbing repairs (desirable)
- Tiling and patch repairs (walls and floors)
- Temporary flooring repairs (carpets, lino, screeds)
- Suspended ceiling repairs
- Shelving and racking installations
- Lock changes and repairs
- External patch brickwork
- Painting and decorating
- General carpentry
✅ What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a similar building fabric or maintenance role
- City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in building fabric (desirable)
- Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- A proactive, team-oriented approach with a focus on safety and quality
