Wates grows North West Business Development Team

Wates Construction, currently building Select Property Group’s Circle Square in Manchester, ramps up its business development in the North West with the appointment of David Roberts as Bid Centre Manager.

David will lead all aspects of pre-construction as part of the contractor’s work winning across the North West. This will include supply chain coordination as well as overseeing tendering and building design.

David’s remit will include Wates’ operations in Cumbria, where the business has gained a foothold over the past 12 months. Current projects in the county include BAE Systems’ Central Training Facility and the flagship £30m Campus Whitehaven.

Bringing over 25 years of industry experience, David commences his new position following a 12-year tenure as an Estimating Manager for Balfour Beatty. Sectors of experience include education, acute health and renewable and nuclear energy.

David is tasked with helping to grow the contractor’s portfolio across the region, specifically targeting commercial and education projects as well as the wider public sector to complement Wates’ current position on the North West Construction Hub.

Once a project is on site there has already been extensive work done by a team of experts to ensure that it is viable, within budget and will guarantee high quality for our clients, and its subsequent success is reliant on this process being coordinated efficiently and effectively.

Managing a smooth pre-construction process is at the centre of our work-winning strategy and I have no doubt that David’s industry experience will further enhance this commitment, giving our new projects the best possible footing and ensuring that we continue to deliver exceptional buildings.”

Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director of Wates Construction, North West

I look forward to bringing further success to Wates and to adding to the expertise in the region’s work winning team. Throughout my career, I have developed a strong belief that a project can only achieve excellence if it has an excellent team behind it at every level, from business development to pre-construction to build.

I will spend the coming months getting under the skin of Wates’ bidding activities in the North West and handing over a diverse variety of projects to our delivery teams on the ground.”
