Wates Construction, has unveiled plans to expand its presence across the East Midlands, building upon its position as delivery partner for Scape’s East Midlands Property Alliance (empa) procurement framework.
Identifying increased opportunities in the region, Wates is set to target new projects across a range of sectors, including private residential, leisure, industrial and manufacturing and all tiers of education.
The move forms part of the Wates Group’s nationwide plans to double turnover to £2bn and will build on Wates’ existing portfolio of East Midlands projects. These include Lincolnshire Council’s Grantham Beacon Care Home and Nottingham City Council’s Dakeyne Street programme to transform a derelict factory into a hub for the city’s creative quarter.
With the East Midlands growth plans will come a recruitment drive, which will see Wates expand its 35-strong regional team as well as creating new trainee and apprenticeship positions for local people.
The contractor has also made a pledge to expand its regional supply chain network, a commitment that has seen Wates spend over £30m with East Midlands sub-contractors since its appointment to Scape’s empa framework in 2014.
The diversity of our projects and the ongoing growth of our business has resulted in some exceptional talent in our East Midlands team and this gives us extremely strong foundations upon which we will build our regional presence.
The increase of investment in the East Midlands presents us with an opportunity to extend our reputation as a trusted and expert contractor across both the public and private sectors, which will further cement our future as the contracting partner of choice in the East Midlands.”
