Wates announces the completion of multi million pound Cambridge office development

Wates Construction has announced the completion and handover of the highly anticipated One the Square in Cambridge to developers, Brookgate.

One the Square comprises commercial and leisure spaces and forms part of CB1, a brand new city quarter located next to Cambridge railway station which will benefit from new public spaces and improvements to public transport infrastructure.

Designed by architecture firm Perkins+Will, the new development has transformed the surrounding landscape. One the Square boasts 129,295 sq ft. of Grade A office space as well as 13,379 sq ft. of retail provision and sits alongside Abellio Greater Anglia’s work to redesign Cambridge railway station.

The project also created employment and training opportunities for local people. Highlights included Wates’ industry leading Building Futures initiative, a two-week programme that provided construction skills training to nine local jobseekers.

All trainees completed the course and were awarded a nationally recognised certificate to help them secure further training and experience on building sites.

The handover of a project to a client is always a celebrated achievement, but we are particularly proud of everything that we have delivered at One the Square and to have played such a central role in the changing commercial landscape in Cambridge.

“Key to this project has been our close partnership working with Brookgate and Abellio Greater Anglia to carefully manage what has been a very constrained site. The result is an exceptional new office of the size and specification that will really set the bar for new commercial developments across the city.”
