Construction has commenced to create a new two-storey school block for Maghull High School on Ormonde Drive in Merseyside.

The new school provision will include a school hall, dining room, dedicated performing arts suite and two floors of cutting-edge classrooms. Replacing facilities that are no longer fit for use, the project will be completed in spring 2019 where upon parts of the existing school building will be demolished.

The work forms part of the ESFA’s Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2), which is rebuilding or refurbishing those school buildings in the very worst condition across the country.

The project is the first of three proposed schemes that Wates Construction will deliver across the North West, with Hartford High School in Northwich and Upton Heath Primary in Chester to follow.

We’re pleased to have begun the important task of building these much-needed new facilities for Maghull High School.

We know that exceptional learning environments are a great asset to the educational development of young people and we will be drawing on our experience as a trusted contractor for the education sector to ensure the quality delivery of this new school building.

We have an excellent team in place and are already making great progress.”

Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction North West

I am absolutely delighted that our staff and students are finally getting the building they deserve.

Many years ago, a survey of schools in Sefton was conducted and identified Maghull High School as the second worst in terms of its condition. This new build has been a long time coming.”

Mr Howe, Chair of Govenors at Maghull High School
